What are my chances of getting pregnant?
For women under 40 years of age, a tubal reversal done using the traditional surgical
procedures offers an excellent change of conceiving. Conception usually occurs in
the first year following the procedure.
A Tubal Reversal significantly increases your chances of becoming pregnant. This procedure is intended to restore fertility; however, outcomes vary and are determined by the licensed provider based on each patient’s individual condition. Results are not guaranteed.
The success of surgery to reverse a tubal ligation depends on:
- The tubal ligation method that was originally used. Clips and rings (such as the Hulka clip, Filshie clip, and Falope rings) are successfully reversed the most often. Electrocautery is least likely to be successfully reversed.
- Time: The less time that has passed since the tubal ligation was done
- Depending on the method used for tubal ligation and how much of the fallopian tube is damaged after tubal ligation, success rates for reversals are about 70% to 80%.
Is Tubal Reversal A Good Option For Me?
Not all women who have had a tubal ligation are candidates for reversal. During an initial evaluation, a qualified fertility specialist will assess the condition of the fallopian tubes, often using diagnostic methods such as laparoscopy.
Several factors may influence eligibility for tubal reversal, including:
- How the original tubal ligation was performed (cut, tied, cauterized, or blocked)
- Current age and overall health
- The method used in the original procedure
- The location of the sterilization within the fallopian tubes
- The remaining length and condition of the fallopian tubes
Insurance coverage may be available for certain medically necessary aspects of the procedure, depending on individual circumstances. In some cases, symptoms such as pain, headaches, hemorrhage, menstrual irregularities, or hair loss following tubal ligation may be relevant.
Patients are encouraged to discuss their medical history and symptoms directly with the licensed medical provider to determine appropriate options.
Reversal Microsurgery
Tubal ligation reversal can be performed using microsurgical techniques. This procedure typically offers a fast recovery time and a high rate of fertility success following surgery.
Reversal surgery is often highly successful for women who have previously undergone tubal ligation.
At Silverlake Virgil Surgical Center, procedures are performed by licensed physicians with a focus on affordability, patient comfort, and successful outcomes.
Patients are provided with access to appropriate options for sterilization reversal based on individual circumstances.
TYPES OF ANESTHESIA
In Silverlake Virgil Surgery Center, general anesthesia is commonly used for these procedures. Under general anesthesia, the patient is asleep during the operation and does not feel pain during the procedure.
The anesthesia plan is determined based on the procedure, medical history, and physician evaluation. Patients should discuss anesthesia-related questions directly with the care team before surgery.
